چکیده

The Tibetan Plateau (TP) is known as the Asian water tower that supplies fresh for millions of people in Asia. vortices (TPVs) are one major precipitation-producing weather systems over TP. characteristics TPV-associated precipitation from 1979 to 2017 quantitatively analysed based on three daily datasets. influence TPVs more significant warm season (May–September) because and TPV activities both peak season. (VAP) dominates total most TP VAP contributes than 50% 30% area TP, particularly central while accounts 25% cold about 20% Therefore, produce season, they also important certain regions. interannual variation mainly determined by number, rather intensity, TPVs. Furthermore, heating anomaly caused thermodynamic effect an influential factor VAP. Precipitation impacts on vegetation spring phenology on the Tibetan Plateau.

The ongoing changes in vegetation spring phenology in temperate/cold regions are widely attributed to temperature. However, in arid/semiarid ecosystems, the correlation between spring temperature and phenology is much less clear. We test the hypothesis that precipitation plays an important role in the temperature dependency of phenology in arid/semiarid regions. We therefore investigated the in...

Snowpack Radiative Heating: Influence on Tibetan Plateau Climate

Solar absorption decays exponentially with depth in snowpacks. However, most climate models constrain all snowpack absorption to occur uniformly in the top-most snow layer. We show that 20–45% of solar absorption by deep snowpacks occurs more than 2 cm beneath the surface. Accounting for vertically-resolved solar heating alters steady-state snow mass without changing bulk snow albedo, and ice-a...

Peopling of the northern Tibetan Plateau

Early archaeological investigations on the Tibetan Plateau concluded that this harsh, high-elevation environment was successfully colonized around 30,000 years ago. Genetic studies have tended to support this view on the assumption that the uniquely evolved physiological capacities seen among modern Tibetan populations required long-term exposure to high-elevation selective pressures. Archaeolo...

Winter Mesospheric Thermal Structure over Tibetan Plateau

A mobile Rayleigh temperature lidar was deployed in Golmud (36.25°N 94.54°E), Qinghai in China for making measurements of mesosphere temperature from 55 up to 90 km. The mesospheric thermal structure was obtained during the winter seasons of Year 2013 and Year 2014. At the altitude of 57~79 km, lidar temperatures were much colder than the MSIS-00 model predictions. However, in the lower mesosph...
